The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel of Infantry Andre J. Renie, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Chief of the Personnel Bureau and as Head of the 1st Bureau of the General Staff of the French Army, Colonel Renie placed the facilities of his important office at the service of the American authorities, lending every assistance in his power to meet the needs of the American troops. His services, rendered with a loyal spirit of cooperation, have been of great value to the American Expeditionary Forces.
