The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Surgeon Major of the 1st Class Pierre F. Mortier, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Medical Member of the French Mission at General Headquarters, American Expeditionary Forces, and later in the Medical Section of the Central Bureau of Franco-American relations, Surgeon Major of the First Class Mortier labored ceaselessly and with conspicuous success in the interests of the sick and wounded. He obtained for us hospital sites, hospital trains, and ambulances in times of emergency.
