The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Marie L. J. Monroe Dit Roe, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. General Monroe Dit Roe Commanded with great distinction the 60th French Infantry Division, which under his skillful leadership achieved brilliant successes in combat. The 1st American Division had a most valuable initial experience in actual warfare when it went into the trenches of the Toul sector under his supervision. He gave also equally valuable assistance in the training of other American Divisions which were attached to his command.
