The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Oliver C. A. A. Mazel, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. After serving with eminent distinction at the front General Mazel was assigned to the Command of the 4th Region at Le Mans, France, where he continued to perform important duties with conspicuous ability. By his warm spirit of cooperation and appreciation of American needs he was of material assistance in connection with the establishment and development of our embarkation and replacement center at Le Mans, thereby rendering valuable services to the American Expeditionary Forces.
