The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brevet Colonel Leopold Maison, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Commanding Officer of Artillery, 132d French Division, Colonel Maison rendered us service of exceptional value by his accurate and rapid work in directing and controlling the fire of the Divisional Artillery which was supporting the 37th American Division. His efficiency resulted in our Infantry receiving all the advantages of constant artillery support, and he was in a large measure responsible for the success achieved. He displayed military attainments of a high order and was constant and untiring in his efforts in our behalf.
