The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General William G. MacPherson, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Deputy Director General of Medical Services of the British Armies in France, General MacPherson displayed exceptional energy, initiative, and good judgment in directing and supervising in the most expeditious manner possible the organization, equipment, and training of medical department units of the 2d Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, serving with the British Expeditionary Forces. It was largely through his cooperation and individual efforts that the Medical Service of the 2d Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, was prepared in time to proficiently discharge its duties to the sick and wounded in combat.
