The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Arthur L. Lynden-Bell, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Director of Staff Duties at British General Headquarters, General Lynden-Bell performed with distinction the important duties of his high office. In the midst of his manifold and exacting tasks he interested himself repeatedly in behalf of the American Expeditionary Forces, rendering us service of exceptional value. Through his instrumentality masses of information requested by us of the British Mission at Washington, Versailles, and at American General Headquarters have been made available. Most helpful at all times, he has proved himself a loyal friend.
