The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General William B. Leishman, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. By his marked energy and zealous cooperation with the Medical Service of the American Expeditionary Forces in important research work, General Leishman promoted the efficient treatment of the American sick and wounded. His remarkable achievements in the domain of preventive medicine and wound bacteriology resulted in the saving of many lives among our wounded. His services were of great consequence to the American Expeditionary Forces.
