The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Gerard M. Heath, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Engineer in Chief of the British Expeditionary Forces General Heath performed with conspicuous success, highly responsible duties in the struggle against the common enemy. He gave unfailing support to the American units serving with the British Armies, and in spite of the numerous other tasks sough every opportunity to aid in developing their efficiency, thereby rendering services of the utmost value to the American Expeditionary Forces.
