The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Edouard F. M. A. Gouin, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As a member of the 59th Regiment of Artillery, French Army, Lieutenant Gouin rendered services of great worth to the American Expeditionary Forces while he was attached successively to the 1st Field Artillery Brigade and 1st Division, the 5th Army Corps, and the 9th Army Corps. His earnest devotion to duty and marked tactical ability displayed in the execution of important artillery missions have earned for him the lasting respect and high esteem of the American officers with whom he served.
