The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant General Guglielmo Pecori Giraldi, Italian Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Commander of the 1st Italian Army, General Giraldi rendered eminent services t the 332d U.S. Infantry, whose good fortune it was to be attached to his command during its training period, and which owes much of its successful preparation for combat to his painstaking efforts in its behalf.
