The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry Jules E. L. Fort, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Chief of the French Mission of the 1st American Army throughout its operations, Lieutenant Colonel Fort performed with distinction and success the task of coordinating the work of the American and French units. He was painstaking and untiring in his efforts to maintain helpful cooperation.
