The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Maurice Duval, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Aide-Major General of Air Service, General Duval cooperated in every way possible with the Chief of the U.S. Air Service in the organization and development of the American air units at the front. He placed French units at our disposal during important offensive operations and at all times showed himself a most loyal friend. His service to the American Expeditionary Forces was most valuable.
