The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant John Carroll Delaney, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 February 1865, while serving with Company I, 107th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Dabney’s Mills, Virginia. Sergeant Delaney sprang between the lines and brought out a wounded comrade about to be burned in the brush.
