The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry Gaston C. G. A. Duffour, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. In Command of troops in the field and as Chief of the French Operations Bureau, Lieutenant Colonel Duffour rendered services of inestimable value in the prosecution of the war. He gave us very material assistance by imparting to the Chief of the American Military Mission at French General Headquarters, information as to the plans of his bureau. At all times he afforded us whole-hearted cooperation, going far beyond the bounds of duty to render service to the American Expeditionary Forces.
