The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel, Superintendent of the 3d Class Gabriel A. Dive, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As a Member of the Staff of the Inspector General of Supply, French Army, Colonel Dive was charged with the responsibility for the cooperation of his section of the French General Staff with the American Expeditionary Forces with reference to supply problems. The rare technical skill, resourcefulness, tact and spirit of cooperation displayed by Colonel Dive, coupled with sound judgment and unremitting devotion to duty contributed markedly to the successful operations of the American forces in Europe.
