The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Surgeon Colonel Charles U. Dercle, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I, for services as Liaison Officer and Advisor to the Surgeon General. By his thorough knowledge Surgeon Colonel Dercle gave much needed and excellent advice upon medico-military subjects, which was of great assistance in the solution of important problems confronting the Surgeon General. He has rendered services of great value.
