The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel Giacomo Carpentieri, Italian Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Chief of the Transportation Department, Italian Army, Colonel Carpentieri displayed exceptional administrative ability and untiring energy in his important duties, thereby playing an important part in assuring the victorious termination of our struggles against the common enemy. Manifesting an earnest desire to aid the American forces in every possible way, he assisted us materially by furnishing adequate facilities for the transportation of our troops and supplies.
