The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Captain W. A. Bush, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. At the request of the American Expeditionary Forces, Captain Bush was detailed as Instructor in gas defense, and rendered services of extraordinary merit at the school at Hanlon Field. Largely as the result of his energy, skill, and exact knowledge the school accomplished a most important mission, providing a course of instruction which, when put in practice in the field, prevented many casualties.
