The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Basil W. B. Bowdder, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. While he was on duty in the Intelligence Section at British General Headquarters and as Chief of the Information Section, Lieutenant Colonel Bowdder’s assistance and advice in inspecting and training American officers were of distinct advantage to the American Expeditionary Forces. He displayed military attainments of a high order, and at all times cooperated with the American military authorities whole-heartedly.
