The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General. Luigi Bongiovanni, Italian Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. In Command of the Italian Air Forces during the time American pilots attached to Italian squadrons were on active duty at the Italian front, General Bongiovanni exercised great ability, tact, and energy in his direction of the work of our officers. At all times he showed the highest military attainments, and his enthusiasm was an example to all. He rendered a most valuable service in his prosecution of operations against the enemy.
