The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Hugh K. Bethell, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. General Bethell Commanded with distinction the 66th British Division with which the 27th American Division was affiliated during its training period. By his broad-minded policy, personal interest, and careful supervision he gave great assistance to the division, enabling the American troops to readily adapt themselves to the methods and conditions of service with a foreign army.
