The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Second Lieutenant Jean M. A. Bertin, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I, as Second Lieutenant of the 5th Regiment of Engineers, French Army. As Liaison Officer between the D.T.M.A. of the French Army and the Deputy Director General of Transportation at American General Headquarters, by his tactful, capable, and untiring efforts to assist the American Army, Second Lieutenant Bertin has rendered services of great value to the American Expeditionary Forces. Loyal to the American Army, he at all times showed a friendly interest in all our needs.
