The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain John Barclay Fassett, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 2 July 1863, while serving with Company F, 23d Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. While acting as an aide, Captain Fassett voluntarily led a regiment to the relief of a battery and recaptured its guns from the enemy.
