The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General John Adye, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. General Adye’s services were of conspicuous merit as a member of the Committee on Return of Prisoners of War. His large experience in the Near East, combined with rare judgment and quiet forcefulness, made his work especially valuable in securing the rapid return of American and allied prisoners and in alleviating their condition.
