    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Quartermaster Corps) Winthrop Samuel Wood, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. In charge of the General Supply Depot, Jeffersonville, Indiana, from April 1917 to May 1918, the successful organization, development, and administration of the system at that important depot for the supply of clothing and general equipment were largely due to Colonel Wood’s great energy, foresight, and marked executive ability. Later, As Quartermaster, Base Section No. 6, American Expeditionary Forces, from August 1918 to January 1919, by his administrative ability and untiring zeal he rendered conspicuous services in the improvement and development of the organization of the supply system at this important depot.
