The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) Asa L. Singleton, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Chief of Staff of Base Section No. 5, Colonel Singleton displayed exceptional administrative ability. The excellent results obtained in evacuating over 700,000 men through the Port of Brest are due in no small measure to the efficient organization created by him. He has rendered services of signal worth to the American Expeditionary Forces.
