The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Martin C. Shallenberger, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1, of the 3d Army Corps, during the Meuse-Argonne offensive, by his tireless efforts, marked organizing ability, and keen application to his numerous duties, Lieutenant Colonel Shallenberger contributed in a large measure to the success attained by his corps, rendering valuable services to the American Expeditionary Forces.
