The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) Lorrain Thompson Richardson, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Commander of the 322d Infantry, 81st Division, during its organization, training, and in all its combat operations Colonel Richardson displayed marked efficiency, tireless energy, and military attainments of the highest order. By his sound judgment and skillful and energetic leadership he contributed materially to the successes achieved by the regiment against the enemy.
