The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Quartermaster Corps) Charles C. Pierce, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Serving as Assistant to the Chief Quartermaster, American Expeditionary Forces, in the capacity of Chief of Graves Registration Services since December 1917, Lieutenant Colonel Pierce displayed unusual ability and conscientious care in the performance of his exacting duties. Under his skillful administration the service functioned efficiently. He at all times showed great energy and performed his important task with exceptional success.
