The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Quartermaster Corps) Peter Murray, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Chief, Training and Instruction Branch, War Plans Division, General Staff, during 1919, under colonel Murray’s direction the foundation for the existing system of Army education and training was established and ways and means evolved to apply to peace training the lessons learned in the World War.
