The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Donald Marion McRae, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2, 78th Division, from November 1917 until December 1918, Lieutenant Colonel McRae displayed military attainments of a high order. By his great energy, sound judgment, and efficient administration of his section he was able to secure complete and valuable information of the enemy, thereby contributing materially to the successful operations of his division.
