The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) Edmund J. McMahon, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Commanding Officer of the camp at St. Sulpice, France, a position of great responsibility, Colonel McMahon demonstrated rare executive ability. The efficient operation and growth of this important base section was due, in a great measure, to his energy and capacity for handling a task of considerable magnitude.
