The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Medical Corps) Stuart McGuire, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Commanding Officer of Base Hospital No. 45, Lieutenant Colonel McGuire received and cared for a very large number of wounded evacuated in that hospital during the Battle of the Argonne, in September and October 1918. By his administrative and professional skill he has reflected credit upon the Medical Department of the Army.
