The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Field Artillery) Chester B. McCormick, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I, while Commanding the 119th Field Artillery and at times the 57th Artillery Brigade during the Meuse-Argonne offensive. During these operations Colonel McCormick displayed marked judgment and devotion to duty, and by the skillful handling of his command contributed materially to the success of the 57th Artillery Brigade in supporting the 32d and at other times five other divisions.
