The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) Alexander J. Macnab, Jr., United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Colonel Macnab installed an extensive system of target ranges in France and perfected methods for the training of marksmen, personally supervising the instruction of 200,000 Infantry replacements. As a member of the Training Section he applied his methods to the instruction of the Infantry of the American Expeditionary Forces in positions of great responsibility.
