The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Fred W. Llewellyn, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Assuming the responsibilities of the First Section of the General Staff of the 28th Division five days before the Meuse-Argonne offensive, Lieutenant Colonel Llewellyn efficiently coordinated the several services. By his constant vigilance and ceaseless efforts the entire system of supply, traffic, and evacuation operated during the advance of more than 10 kilometers, in accordance with the plans he had arranged. He was tireless in his energy and devotion to important duties, displaying military attainments of high order.
