The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Corps of Engineers) John P. Hogan, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Officer in Charge of the Topographical Sections, G-2, of the 5th Army Corps and the 2d Army, Lieutenant Colonel Hogan contributed materially toward the success of the operations. Joining the 2d Army Staff upon organization, he exercised such energy, judgment, and foresight that remarkable results were obtained in preparing maps for an offensive action and the subsequent occupation of the enemy’s territory.
