The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Field Artillery) William Nafew Haskell, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Colonel Haskell exhibited devotion, skill, and untiring energy as Chief of the Operations Section, 4th Army Corps, during its organization and in the St. Mihiel offensive. As Chief of the Operations Section, 2d Army, he rendered exceptionally meritorious service during the organization of that Army and in the operations north of Toul during October and November 1918.
