The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel Gustav Joseph Fiebeger, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I, as Professor of Civil and Military Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy. As head of the Department of Civil and Military Engineering Colonel Fiebeger for 26 years instructed, both personally and by textbook, the officers of the Army in the principles of warfare, principles later fruitfully applied by many of these officers as commanders in the World War.
