The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Corps of Engineers) Edmund Leo Daley, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois De Fays, from 14 to 26 October 1918. Colonel Daley, under continuous harassing fire during which losses were considerable, by his example of endurance, cheerfulness and high courage, was a constant source of inspiration for both officers and men of his command. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Daley, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
