The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major (Chaplain) Charles H. Brent, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Senior Headquarters Chaplain, Major Brent organized the Chaplains’ School and established a schematic system of religious effort, enabling all chaplains throughout France to further these excellent results which have marked their duties amongst the troops. By his loyal spirit of cooperation, his marked ability, and by his masterful attainments he has rendered services of most conspicuous merit and lasting value to the American Government.
