    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Corps of Engineers) Roger Gordon Alexander, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility, during World War I. As Chief of the Topographical Division of the Intelligence Section, Colonel Alexander organized and administered, with exceptional ability, the topographical and sound and flash ranging services of the American Expeditionary Forces. Due to his foresight and energy our armies in the field were at all times supplied abundantly with excellent maps of the theater of operations.
