The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Command Sergeant Major Robert Arthur Prosser, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in combat action against the enemy in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, on 19 August 2005, in Iraq. Command Sergeant Major Prosser’s complete disregard for his own personal safety and unwavering courage under enemy fire saved the life of the Battalion Commander and subsequently brought a dangerous and known insurgent to justice. His heroic actions while under heavy enemy fire shows his complete dedication and exemplary performance to duty in a combat zone against Anti-Iraqi forces. His actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflect distinct credit upon himself, Task Force FREEDOM, Multi-National Corps Iraq, and the United States Army.
