The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Casey H. Newton, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with the 2d Battalion, 22d Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, during combat operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, on 19 March 2004 to 19 March 2004, while engaging enemy forces in the town of Miam Do, during Operation MOUNTAIN STORM. First Lieutenant Newton’s unending leadership, personal example under fire, and bravery helped rescue one United States Soldier and destroy the opposing enemy force. First Lieutenant Newton’s actions reflect great credit upon himself, the WARRIOR Brigade, Task Force COURAGE, and the United States Army.
