The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Robert Miltenberger, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Squad Leader in Warrior Company, 2d Squadron, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, during combat operations in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, in Sadar City, Iraq, on 4 April 2004. Staff Sergeant Miltenberger directed and contributed to the application of precise and lethal fires against the enemy while performing critical medical care on numerous wounded soldiers. Staff Sergeant Miltenberger’s quick, composed reaction and leadership during the fighting and the subsequent care of wounded and security of equipment afterwards are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service. His actions reflect great credit upon himself, 1st Cavalry Division, Multi-National Corps Iraq, and the United States Army.
