The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Major Roderick C. Anderson, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Operational Detachment Alpha 365 (ODA-365), 2d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, on 3 July 2004, in Afghanistan. On that date, Sergeant Major Anderson distinguished himself while serving as Sergeant Major for Advanced Operational Base 360, Forward Operational Base 32, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan. His heroic actions while under direct fire, dedication to duty, selfless service, and commitment to mission accomplishment, under the most extreme of circumstances, greatly contributed to the success of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Sergeant Major Anderson’s performance is in keeping with the finest tradition of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, and the United States Central Command.
