The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Rear Admiral Thomas Slidell Rodgers, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility as a Division Commander of the Atlantic Fleet and later in command of a Division of battleships operating in European waters.
