    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal in lieu of the Certificate of Merit previously issued to First Sergeant John C. O’Connor, United States Army, for distinguished services as a member of Battery G, 3d Artillery Regiment, in the campaign in the Philippine Islands, from 31 July 1898 to 1 January 1901.
