The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal in lieu of the Certificate of Merit previously issued to Corporal Roy F. Cox, United States Army, for highly meritorious services in voluntarily traveling about 30 miles during a service blizzard, rescuing a civilian from freezing near Lake Minto, and dragging by sled 65 miles to Fairbanks, Alaska, on 26 – 29 February, 1908.
